I just saw a commercial advertising a specific service. Products are often advertised… Sham-Wow, Chia Pets, and the sort. But every now and then you come across a gem of a service. One that just captures your interest immediately. This was it. All I had to do was text my name and the name of my lover to a certain number, and they would tell me the percentage of likeliness that we would be together forever… … Oh the deep sense of urgency I felt… …
The repulsive thing is that there must be many people who use this service – otherwise, they would not have the means or the justification for public broadcasting advertisement.
It seems so ridiculous to me. But believe it or not, there are many out there who look for those quick and easy affirmations in their love lives. Anything that might give me some assurance about that which I desire the most… Love and your phone… Who would have thought?…
“This is how we have come to know love; Christ laid down His life for us.”
Romans 5:8 reveals the depth of true love: that “While we were yet in sin, Christ died for us.”
True love is something for which everyone longs… Both to love, and to BE loved. I wonder what our culture is seeing in phones and APPs that they are not seeing in the Christian community – that they would consult automated machinery over those to whom real love has been entrusted.
By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:35 NASB)
